Jennifer Hedican
Music has been a major part of my life. Beginning with Suzuki method as a young child. Myself and my sister often played in a folk band at church or at nursing homes with Suzuki groups. I started teaching violin as a teen.
I have had many excellent teachers over the years. Among them Cathy Rappaport from the RCM, Arkadi Yanivker from TSO and Dr. Jeremy Bell Artist in Residence from WLU. Where I completed my BMus: Performance. Oct 28, 2001.
Throughout my youth I participated in various youth orchestras in Southern Ontario; including TSYO with David Zafer directing, as well as York Region Youth Symphony. Most recently I have freelanced throughout Northern Ontario. Before moving to North Bay, I completed 2 summers with the National Academy Orchestra in Hamilton directed by Boris Brott. Since I have moved to North Bay, I have been a long standing member of the North Bay Symphony Orchestra over 22 years now.
My musical Career has allowed me to meet many inspired and gifted musicians. My style of teaching has been formed from a combination of Suzuki, RCM and some fiddle & Baroque influences. Most recently I have developed an interest in violin composition for myself and those students who are interested in composition. As teachers we aspire to guide our students in the path that best suits them musically. I continue to believe that becoming a musician can be one of the most rewarding things a person can do in life. It is there for us in times of sorrow in times of joy and everything in between.
I'm looking forward to taking on some students at the Capitol Centre Studio. Youth are the future of the musical profession. To learn for enjoyment is also very commendable.
